Gizem Calgan Doganay comes from a family of five generations of musicians. She was born in Ankara in 1976.
She has taken her first violin lessons from her father Professor Koral Calgan at the age of 5. After passing the examination of Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory in 1987, she has been admitted to receive education in the Conservatory. Doganay has taken part in various recitals and chamber music concerts and performed as a soloist in orchestral accompaniment throughout her education. She successfully graduated from Cengiz Ozkok's class in 1997.
In 2001, in the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Bilkent University, she completed her graduate study on violin education with Professor Suna Kan, a worldwide known violin artist, and her chamber music studies with her mother Sumru Guner. Gizem Calgan Doganay gave many recitals and participated in chamber music concerts before her graduation with a distinguishing degree in 2003.
Between the years 1997-2001, Doganay has worked in the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra. Within the scope of the International Anatolia Music Festival, she participated in concert tours in 51 provinces of Turkey with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra and she has also performed at many concerts in several European countries (Italy, Portugal, etc.) and at the major art centers in Turkey.
She continues her teaching and music career in London since 2018. She pursues her career as a chamber music instructor and music education consultant. She runs the Gizem Music Club that she found in 2018, contributing to the spreading of classical music culture.
As a master class music teacher, she widens her music studies with children as well as with young people for the past 15 years.
